Do you have a long family line of people who lived into their late 80's and 90's? You must have good genes then, right? There are pretty good odds that you will get up there too, but can you rely solely on good genes to get you there?
Unfortunately, no. There is evidence that longevity runs in families, however determining the existence of particular longevity genes is much more complex. The National Institute of Aging shares that "scientists do not know all of the factors and pathways that lead to longevity." (1)
Thus we should not put all our chips into one basket. We need to make sure we are doing what we can to live a healthy lifestyle: exercise, eat nutritious foods, rest, de-stress, and have fun.
You can't control the genetic hand you were dealt but you can make the most of it!
