For many years the talk about health has centered around exercise and good nutrition. While these both help us live longer, healthier lives they can both be side-lined by one common factor -CHRONIC STRESS.
Chronic stress can have the power to negate the hard work you do in the gym and the salads you have been eating on a weekly basis, that's the power behind stress.
In this short little animated video the basic effects of stress are discussed - how it can cause increased inflammation, blood clots, increase abdominal fat, reduced immune function, damage to neurons and increase one's risk for chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression and it has even been lined to Alzheimer's disease.
In addition to all of that - chronic stress has been linked to shortened telomeres. The ends of our DNA that allow our cells to continue to divide. If our cells cannot divide they die, the more cells that die the more at risk your are for disease and death.
More stress = faster aging = more decline
Okay so with all that GREAT news... what can you do about it? Well we can revert back to those two habits we first discussed exercise and good nutrition can help release hormones that keep cortisol (stress hormone) in check and can even act as forms of stress relief.
But you have to do more to reduce the amount of stress in your life.
The video brings up OXYTOCIN, "the cuddle hormone" - my favorite! This hormone helps to reduce levels of cortisol.
How do you get more of oxytocin in your life? GIVE YOUR FRIEND A HUG! Go on a date night.
Hey - why not bring a friend to a workout class - that would be a double whammy stress reducer!
What ever you do it is important that you find ways to reduce the amount of stress in your life and bring more cuddles and love into your life.
